How did the Travertine form？

Travertine is a sedimentary rock composed of calcium carbonate, commonly found in hot springs or limestone Travertines. It is a limestone accumulated by mineral springs, especially hot springs. When the underground water passes through the surface of the mineral spring, it releases carbon dioxide and condenses in the sedimentary layer of the calcium carbonate, forming many pores (holes) and bubbles, thus forming Travertine stones.

The first people to use Travertine stones as building materials were Italians. Thousands of years ago, people in the town of Tivoli near Rome discovered a huge reserve of Travertine stones, which are easy to process into materials needed for construction. In 80 BC, people transported mined Travertine stones from the town of Tivoli to Rome for building and developing cities. The Romans mainly used Travertine stones to build temples, waterways, monuments, and amphitheatres, among which the Colosseum in ancient Rome was the largest building mainly using Travertine stones.
